Seoul Lantern Festival, Block B and Pepero Day
It´s been a while since I´ve updated. So let me note down what I´ve missed since I came back from Japan and the DBSK concert in a couple of posts. Actually, before the DBSK concert, some other things happened. I´m actually using my facebook to make sure I will not miss any events (if I did something that’s worthy of sharing, I put it on my facebook). On November 8th, we decided to go to the Seoul Lantern Festival which is at Gwanghwamun. When we walked out of the station, a mass of people surrounded this particular building and apparently also a red carpet. Of course we were curious and decided to figure out what was going on. It didn’t take long until I figured out Block B would visit and have an interview at Channel A. Of course, I’d want to see Block B so we decided to split up. Xia Qing would wait with me and Zou Yun and some others went to the lantern festival. In the end, Qing and I waited for more than an hour, but hey, we got to see Block B! We were standing next to the red carpet in the beginning so as soon as they got out of the car (Kyung wanted to go out a bit too early but the bodyguards went like; NO! GO BACK INSIDE! /closes door on his foot/) they were walking past us. They are really handsome. :Q_ I thought we would leave right after, but nope. We decided to just watch them do the interview. And if that ever got broadcasted and they showed the audience outside… the red head.. yeah, that’s me. Afterwards we went to the Seoul Lantern Festival (Qing and me), but we didn’t meet the others. We did see a crap load of couples though. Oh goodie, another couple place huh? The festival was nice, it reminded me of the one in Jinju (obviously) but really, the amount of couples could get a bit annoying. Oh well, we enjoyed ourselves and I’ve been staring at flower lantern lamps for quite some time and ended up not buying one. (Few weeks later; I bought one!) Have you ever heard of Pepero Day? Pepero Day is a holiday in Korea that happens on November 11th. Instead of me explaining it, I will just give you the nice Wikipedia description as it’s pretty easy to understand. “Pepero Day is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine's Day. It is named after the Korean snack Pepero and held on November 11, since the date "11/11" resembles four sticks of Pepero. The holiday is observed mostly by young people and couples, who exchange Pepero sticks, other candies, and romantic gifts.”Oh would you look at that. Another thing for couples! This day was on a Sunday and at first I thought I’d give some pepero to friends and all. In the end, I just stayed home and avoided the entire holiday. Around this time, I also was in quite the lonely/forever alone mood. Seoul makes you realize when you’re single. Just a warning for whoever wants to come here and is single. I am okay being single for all my life because I don’t know how it feels otherwise, but hey, I can get lonely too when wherever you look are couples. But enough of my lonely ranting, let’s carry on!! (I don't have pictures of Pepero Day because well... uhh, I could've taken pictures of the lovely stands but I didn't so, google if you must.) On November 13th, Tuesday, I actually walked up the frickin hill that is SKKU campus for my sociology class. My teacher didn’t show up. Some of us actually stayed in the classroom and drew on the board. (Read: Olivia and I drew on the board.) That was our form of rioting against the cancelled class without notice! (The class is about social movements. Get it? Hah! -_-) That evening, I had my other class Counseling Psychology and that teacher actually showed up. Even better, she showed up with a big box full of smaller boxes of Pepero for everyone! I love her, she’s adorable. Such a thoughtful person. I will definitely miss her when I leave. And let me finish this part with how my hair blends with the fall colors. (Because around that time, trees still had leaves.) Next up: M!Countdown on November 15th! And visiting some famous cafes on November 17th. And maybe some more, it depends. :) [FANACCOUNT] 121118 TVXQ Live World Tour 'Catch Me' in Seoul
Warning: Dear non-kpop friends, you might as well skip this entire post as it is just me spazzing about a concert. It's different from the usual blogs. I totally understand if you don't read it. :) If you do.. well.. have fun? :DThis is the first time I'm writing a fanaccount, excuse me if it's not really a fanaccount, I just like writing a blog. OKAY SO LET'S START! One of my flatmates, Xia, and I arrived at the venue around 3PM. We had seats tickets, so didn't feel the need to come early as we knew most of the merchandise was already sold out (they only had fanlights and the blanket left). There were several booths around where you could get some app (Genie, I think) changed to the paid app and also a booth where you could play a game and depending on the score, you could get a gift. Xia and I found two guys walking around with those gifts so we asked and apparently, if you live in Korea (so not a tourist), you could get them from them. Hah! So we didn't have to play the game in the end. Anyways, inside the hall, we had to split up as our seats we're completely the opposite of each other. I was in block 29 (left from the stage) and Xia in block 42 (right from the stage). Around 10 minutes before the start, they played the Humanoid MV teaser on the screen. I was already liking it. After some announcements in Korean, English and Japanese telling people of the rules and keeping hydrated, especially in the standing area, there were screams. I was quite far from the place people kept spazzing. Apparently, some members EXO and Donghae came in. (Eunhyuk too? I'm not too sure.) Which is great of course. I've been to the same concert as Donghae. :') A little over 4PM, the lights went out and the intro VCR started playing. I only remember me thinking; "Stop this VCR and show me the boys irl!!" I also looked around me a lot to just take in the view of the beautiful red ocean called Cassiopeia. Indeed, a lovely sight! 'Rising Sun' was the first song they performed. Of course, this being a DB5K song, I became a bit emotional and wary but I still enjoyed it a lot! I still knew the fanchants and of course, screamed along with the other fans. The second song was Getaway. I. Absolutely. Love. This. Song. It's my favourite song of the Catch Me album so I was extremely happy. Yunho was so into some headbanging during this and Yunho + headbanging is an amazing sight. But somewhere in the middle, while Changmin was singing, the music stopped; there was a malfunction. The boys apologized, wondered what was going on and walked back to the middle of the stage. The began all over! Yes! My favourite song was going to be performed AGAIN! So this malfunction.. I like it a lot, haha. During Hey! (Don't Bring Me Down), there was some heavy fanservice. The camera angle they showed on the screen wasn't helping at all to calm to fangirls' hearts. I think the girl next to me was about to cry and/or faint. The boys' heads were so close to each other, like they were challenging each other, but also like they were about to kiss. And just like I said, the camera angle on the screen.. well.. I think you know. After "O" (where I was totally rocking to the song, not really remembering anything of something next to that), they had the opening ment. Of course, Yunho talked first and after he was finished, it was Changmin's turn. Yunho started walking towards the back of the stage and Changmin pretty much shoo'd him away like the brat he is. By the time Changmin was almost done with his introduction, Yunho came back without wearing a jacket and started talking again, resulting into Changmin going to the back of the stage to take off his jacket too. The next song was Like A Soap. Now this was absolutely ADORABLE. Air flowers (like air castles, you know those things children jump on? I forgot how they're called in English..) filled the stage and even a big ass palm tree in the bag. Back up dancers were dressed up as insects and started bugging the boys (hah, pun intended). It was absolutely endearing to say, everyone playing around on stage. Yunho got a big bottle of pesticide (fake of course, I mean it was pretty much as big as him) and started 'spraying' it on the dancers. Changmin got a tennis racket and started hitting the dancers. He even tried a flying kick but fell down. I couldn't help but laugh, it was a really nice performance!! Just playing around and having fun. I can't remember a lot of How Are You anymore, but during Journey they got into separate small planes (which reminded me of Arashi and Super Junior) and started throwing petals everywhere. Yunho was such a little kid. When I looked at one of the screens, he threw some more petals up and blinked so cutely because one of them almost got in his eye, it reminded me of an adorable puppy. Changmin was also like a kid, throwing the petals a bit more aggressive (but not really) than Yunho. Also, Yunho had no problems getting out of the little plane, but Changmin had some difficulties. Maybe he couldn't raise the bar, so he had to crawl out of it? I couldn't see it that clearly. So next up, the solo performances (with a VCR of Changmin with a girl I didn't recognize beforehand)! Changmin's solo was Confession, so as a balad he didn't do a lot more than just standing there and singing his absolute best. It was beautiful ;~~~; And then Yunho had to come in with Honey Funny Bunny and being utterly sexy and handsome and ugh. It started with the dancers dancing little pieces of the intro and then Yunho stood up from his couch, doing some moves too. I have to say, the dance really consists of a lot of bodyrolls. Then at one point, Yunho sat down on the couch again and dancers pushed the couch to the middle stage. Now, from this point, I just totally forgot about the special Yunho event (holding up a fan with his name), because my mouth just wouldn't close. He took off his jacket, dropped to the floor and did some.. well.. moves. Raunchy moves. That's all I can say about his solo. I'm surprised I didn't drool. Then my favourite VCR of the entire concert came on: swords, mudderfudging swords. Katana swords to be exact. UNFFF. Fight scenes VCR are usually my favourites. You know, shows some manliness once in a while. During Wrong Number, Yunho did both raps (so Jaejoong's and his own). It sounded it was a bit altered, but it could also be I just suck at remembering lyrics. It was still cool. Especially because they got the SWORDS. ON. STAGE. FIGHT SCENE WITH SWORDS ON STAGE. Hng. After that, I Don't Know came on and all I wrote down from that performance on my phone is that it was incredibly fierce and Yunho kept making sex faces. Yep. I think that says enough. They showed the Humanoid teaser on the screens again and everyone knew what was coming... And boy, DID I LIKE IT. It might have a bit too much autotune but it pretty much fits the concept of it; Humanoid. It's supposed to be a bit robot-ish, right? :3 I absolutely ADORE the choreography, especially where they lift Yunho and Changmin runs under him to the front (as you can see in the teaser) and also the headrolls (also something they showed in the teaser, well they absolutely show the best in the teasers do they..). Also, the stage got fixed, so that was nice to notice. ^^ All in all; I love Humanoid. It seems perfection to me. I saw some people complaining how they changed and all. Meh, I love it and they performed it really well. Instantly loved it. That means something. During Purple Line... I am so used to Yoochun's awful but hilarious "I really wanna touch myself", it was a bit weird to hear Changmin sing that part. Also, Changmin is really good at singing in the other three's voices. (Or really similar) Either that or I really heard their voices in my head during all the songs. :( I think it was the latter. Before "Before U Go", they played a VCR of Yunho having to break up with Sulli and everything was sad and all, but not without showing Yunho kissing Sulli on the cheek. Adorable, but also sad. :( During Destiny, the duo both danced with girls (two different girls; not like Eunhyuk and Donghae during "I wanna love you" where they dance with the same frickin girl in turns) and had two fake kisses. One in the middle of the performance where the back up dancers covered their faces with their hats and one at the end where they just pretty much hug with their faces towards each other. You know what I mean. I didn't even notice the first one at first, because well.. hats. I'm fine with these fake kisses, really. Was a good performance, nonetheless. :) Then they had this ment where Yunho asked everyone if they were having fun (my Korean is shitty, I'm not sure). "Yeeeeeee!!!" "EVERYONE ARE YOU HAVING FUN?!" "YEEEEE" "CHANGMIN-AH, ARE YOU HAVING FUN!?" "Yeee~~" That was adorable. They also kept dancing a particular move, I'm not sure if it's from Humanoid, but they kept doing it. during. the. entire. ment. Very amusing. Seeing as my Korean is absolute crap, I didn't really pay attention to what they were saying that much, but Yunho used some aegyo and poked Changmin as if he was teasing him and Changmin just replied in a bratty way like the brat he is. They showed several pictures never released before and well, some were amusing, some were cute (Yunho with a lil kid ;~~;), I can't really describe them. Just hope somewhere get sneaky pictures of them and find them. Fans screamed something to Changmin and he just went into cocky-mode once again and replied to the fans. It's really difficult to explain it, but if you're a fan, I think you understand? So let me explain the entire "We are .... T!" thing that's going around. I'm not sure if they used it during the first concert, but let me tell you what happened at the one I attended. Yunho talked about Super Junior with a picture of everyone in SMTOWN in the background. Later, he changed to how enthusiastic their introduction was just like SNSD's. I'm not really sure with SNSD's introducton is, but Super Junior's is: "Urineun Super Juni-OEO!" right? So then Yunho followed with something like "Ah, we have such a boring introduction compared to them ("Annyeong haseyo, Dong Bang Shin Ki imnida..") and he really wanted to try it with their own name too. Well, that kinda failed. So then they carried on with what their names were: Dong Bang Shin Ki, Tohoshinki and Tong Vfang Xien Qi. At first, Changmin pronounced it (Chinese version, also the more international version) a bit incorrectly so Yunho corrected him. Changmin pronounced it right and smirked and chuckled like; yeah, I know I'm good. After this I kind of missed a part, but I think it's easy to guess what happened here. I think because they are TVXQ, they used the first letter of that: T. To add something to their 'boring' introduction, they wanted to do something with that. So, Yunho asked all the fans with multiple fanlights (I only had one T_T) to make a "T" and everytime one of them would scream "We are...!!" the fans should make a T with their fanlights and scream "T!!" with the boys. So we tried it several times and I just screamed T holding up my lonely lightstick haha. So in the end, their introduction became: "Annyeong haseyo, Dong Bang Shin Ki imnida. We are... T!!!" with the fans screaming along with the "T", holding up their lightsticks. :) Is it clear now? ^^ After all the ballads, where they just sat down and calmly walk around the stage, the boys got onto some cars that would get them past the fans in the back (where I was). Yunho kept jumping on the cart and just acting like a little kid and Changmin mainly waved, also having fun. I saw him pointing at one particular person (maybe a kid?) a block in front of me and even did the rock sign to him/her, sticking out his tongue. Ah, I was so jealous. From here on, I didn't take any notes on my phone anymore and my memory is not that good, so I'll be skipping things. What I absolutely didn't forget was the wonderful fan event. During the VCR before Unforgettable (boys stayed on the stage), all the fans in the hall held up banners for the boys (I bet you've seen or heard about them. If not, see TVXQ facebook :D). The VCR was of fans thanking the boys and such. Near the end, they showed the boys on the screen too and I was ready to burst into tears. They started looking around and saw the hall filled with banners. Not a single person didn't held up a banner. Next to a red ocean, we had an ocean of banners. It was a beautiful sight. The boys hugged and I pretty much cried right then and there. (Okay, almost, I could still hold them BUT I WAS SO CLOSE T^T) They thanked us, bowed and started singing Unforgettable. Even though the instructions on the banners said that we could put the banners away after VCR: NO ONE DID. We held them up during the entire performance of Unforgettable. It really was an unforgettable performance. I'm so glad I could've been part of the event. Of course, after this song, the boys returned backstage resulting into the audience breaking out in screams "ENCORE ENCORE ENCORE ENCORE". They returned and started performing Mirotic. Again, I could totally hear the other three's voices and ugh. But Mirotic is still one of my favourites, so I absolutely enjoyed it. After this, they kept running around the stage and even used those segway things. They had baskets attached to them with balls in them. You know, those autographed balls. Of course, they threw most of them into the standing area. Sob sob sob. Oh well, my friend told me it was okay to film and take pictures during encore. Wrong. Security (a girl around my age -.-) came up to me and deleted my pictures. Only pictures of the concert. Luckily not my entire memory card. I would've gotten really angry if she did that. She apologized and sounded really sincere though. Of course, it's no fun to delete pictures of someone's camera when you know they really like them. But she didn't check my phone, haha. And after she went away, you bet I took some more pictures. But only of the ending, where they bowed. While security was busy deleting my files (sob sob sob), she told me to just keep watching the show and Yunho was playing around again and actually like sort of slipped in a really funny way. He laughed it off, though. :) Ah, I don't really remember a lot of the encore, just the boys having fun, the fans having fun, the background dancers having fun. It was all just fun! But I do hope you enjoyed this fanaccount as much as I enjoyed the concert! I tried to write down as much as I remembered (it really is a good thing I made notes on my phone) and if you have any questions or remarks, just go ahead. :) Whoa, it really turned out quite spazzy. I'm sorry for my non-kpop friends if they read through the entire thing. It's quite different from the usual blogs!! P.S. I got my pictures and vids back via a program. Ah, I love technology... Japan pt. 2 - Map the Tokyo & Osaka
Things happened and I'll have a busy weekend, so I should totally finish updating on Japan! I'll try to do it quickly because I also need to sleep otherwise I'll be dead by the end of this weekend, haha.Okay, so day number 3 in Japan! I was still in Tokyo. I would meet up with Maria and Yvi again, but at Shibuya station. That was hell. Because my phone wasn't working, we decided the night before that we would meet up at the exit/gate of the Ginza line at the station. After an hour of waiting at the exit, I got really stressed out and even got scared (hello, fear of being lost), I tried calling them with my telephone card but yeah, that didn't work. So I went to the tourist information desk and they showed me another phone (they didn't have a phone I could use T_T), maybe that one could work. It didn't. I went back and asked them (practically crying at this point) if there were more Ginza line exits. ... There were. Fast forward five minutes and I got re-united with the two girls. Of course, I was COMPLETELY stressed out by this point and just had to cry for a bit. But what was waiting for me made me happy again. When we went out of the station, we ended up at the famous Shibuya crosswalk! The lights turned red for the cars quite soon after we stood still, waiting for it. It was during the day, so it wasn't as crowded as during the night, but still quite crowded! I'm just happy I got to walk there and be part of the crowd. Too bad, I couldn't take a picture. We lost so much time at the Shibuya station that we had to hurry to keep on schedule. First stop: Shibuya Records .. something. This is a building of 7 levels or so with on every level different kinds of music. There was even a kpop floor, but why would I go there when I live in Seoul for four months? Exactly. So I went to the JPOP store and got myself ARASHI's new album POPCORN (also bought one for my flatmate, Xia Qing) and Shige's version of NEWS' single Chankapana. Of course, Kato Shigeaki is my favourite so I totally had to buy his version.
Next stop: Harajuku. Well, this place is absolutely crowded. We only went to the main street, we couldn't go to Yoyogi Park where most of the dressed up youngsters were, but I got to see two of them! They even leme take a picture of them. :) Anyways, the street consists of a lot of shops with the weirdest things. I found boob pudding, Willy Wonka's chocolate (which is pretty tasty), a bunny mannequin, a shop just for keychains of idols (I got Eunhyuk, Matsujun and Junsu!) and a lot more! Whenever you have the chance, go to this street and if you have more time to spare, also go to Yoyogi Park! You should do this on a Sunday, as this is the day they usually hang out here. But beware, it is very crowded! I was dragging a trolley with me the entire case and you need to look out for other people. Luckily, I'm quite good at dodging people.
After visiting Harajuku, we went to Meiji Shrine which is located just a few blocks away. It took us a while to walk through the forest-like path but we got greeted by a Japanese wedding couple! They didn't really greeted us of course, but they were taking pictures with family and friends. Of course, random bystanders (including ourselves) made some pictures too. When we walked around the site, there was another wedding going on (different couple) and we looked at the little plates with wishes on them. (I forgot how they were called.) Every day, the priests would have their ceremony, also taking everyone's wishes in consideration. While Maria and Yvi were still hanging around the wish plates, I strolled around the site some more. I looked at the actual shrine, seeing more people throwing coins before doing their prayers and of course, another wedding couple walking by! And because it was a shrine, there was also a lot of families dressed in formal kimono's. It was a lovely sight to see. The Meiji Shrine might be in a crowded district, but it was still very peaceful there as it was surrounded by trees. It was nice seeing it and all the people walking around.
EDIT! (Even though I'm extremely sleepy, I want to finish this.. so tadaa)
After visitng Meiji Shrine, we made our way to Akihabara which is pretty much the electronics/gamers district. Now, this may not have been that special for the other two but for me it was heaven. I did grew up with two gaming brothers after all. We went into one building which had one floor entirely dedicated to games and merchandise. Unfortunately, I didn't buy anything (wasn't sure anymore if I could play the games anymore but playstation is region-free and I forgot that and DAMN) but I did look at everything quite calmly. When we got outside, it was already dark and the district had come to live. There were so many people! We walked across another building where a lot of people were sitting with their Nintendo DS or PSP and all the likes. Just like at the Pokémon center; to download all the goodies! Also, there were some girls dressed in maid costumes giving out pamphlets for maid cafes (yep, maid cafes, you heard of them, don't lie to me. If you really didn't..) It's really simple. A cafe where you get served by girls dressed in maid cafes. Of course, lonely guys go there quite often. I don't blame them. I want to go to a butler cafe once.
What? Hey, I'm single, I can look. Anyways, other than that, we wanted to look for a place to take some purikura pictures. (Pretty much Japanese photobooths where you can edit the hell out of the pictures.) After some good searching we found one and made some nice pictures. :D
I would have loved to stay longer in Akihabara as I wanted to check out some more games or just actually play some games at a game center, but of course.. no time. BUT NEXT TIME.. Next time.. :)
So the next stop in Tokyo was also the last one, unfortunately. We went to Tokyo Station as Character Street would be there.. somewhere. It took us a while to find it, but we really ended up in some kind of 'street' (inside a building though) with themed stores like Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma, Miffy (Nijntje for the Dutchies), and so on. I bought some things for friends. Something small for myself. We even saw a large candy shop and like pretty much every candy shop, it was very colorful. Unfortunately, Maria couldn't find the candy I gave her on the subway. I bought it in Kyoto and I just shared my last pieces. I hope she found it by now though. There's not really a lot to say about this street, I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.
After visiting the candy shop, it was time to say goodbye to the two lovely girls who toured me around Tokyo. Maria definitely had to rest, I wouldn't want her to get more sick so after many thank you's and random rambling, we split up and I looked for a place to kill time before taking a night bus back to Osaka. I ended up on the floor next to some grandmothers and ate the food I bought earlier in the morning. Yes, I really sat on the floor for at least two hours, because my feet were also killing me. It was okay, I could watch people pass by and I absolutely love to observe people. Got some interesting sights to see. The kids who dropped a toy near me were the cutest though.
Before taking the night bus back, I tried the telephone card again. Didn't work. So I thought; I know the number of my friends' hostel, I shall call the hostel! I got to speak with a receptionist that only knew a little bit of English, but we could still understand each other. My friends were out so I just told the receptionist that he should tell them that I can't call them and I'll see them tomorrow. I decided to pick them up at their hostel (luckily, I looked up the directions before I left my own hostel!).
The night bus was pretty comfortable. This time I had the "Relax WIDE" seats. Wide, my ass. Wide for Japanese people maybe. Normal for Western people. Or just for people with a big butt. But it was still comfortable! I could lay down pretty well and there was a cap you could pull over your head so it was dark and no one would disturb you.
In Osaka, I immediately went to the others' hostel, not wanting to miss them as I didn't know when they would leave. When I got out of the station, I was a bit confused of which direction to go so I asked a man in a little booth (you could buy snacks and drinks there) in my best Japanese where the hostel was. He perfectly understood me! Hah! I did learn some Japanese after all~ He had a map and showed me how to walk. I walked a bit too far and he saw that so he came to fetch me on his bike and pointed at another guy who stood in front of the hostel just to make sure I got to the right hostel. That's right. That's how nice Japanese people are.
I asked the owner of the hostel if my friends were still checked in and they were. So I asked if I could wait in the lobby for them to wake up but he just said I was allowed to go to their rooms to wake them up myself. Hah, they were actually still sleeping and woke them up thirty minutes before they wanted to wake up. Oh well, at least we were reunited again!!
A few hours later, after some 7/11 breakfast, we went our way to Osaka Castle. (We found a train with a "Women only" section..) Apparently, it was so cold for Martin that he wore four layers (all shirts). I definitely had to mention that before I forgot. Before you get to Osaka Castle, you will walk through a large park where in the earlier times were more buildings but they all got destroyed during a war if I remembered correctly. You can go to the park for free so there were two teenage boys skating on the street. We were a bit curious as it didn't really like a skateboard or a waveboard. Actually, they were skating on two separate boards just big enough for their individual feet. Well, that was quite a sight to see. They looked so pro, so Martin eventually got to try it. Big fail, that's all I can say. One of the boys filmed it, just like I did and luckily we did, because it was actually hilarious, but also dangerous. (He almost fell, so yeah..) We said thank you for letting one of us try and moved on, stopping on different spots to take some pictures.
Finally reaching the actual castle, it started to rain. Great timing as we could actually go somewhere inside. I knew Osaka Castle turned into a museum, but it was really modern inside which can be quite disappointing after you've seen how beautiful it is from the outside. Still, I got to see some interesting pieces and learned some history of the castle. But you can also go to the top floor and go outside to enjoy the view. There was a fence all around it, so it was a bit difficult taking pictures but I got some decent ones. Seeing as I'm not a person that can just watch at a not-changing view for a long time, I went inside again and waited for the others with Marion and Linda. Martin soon joined us and when Sophia was also done enjoying the view, we went all the way down again to see if the souvenir shop had some interesting things. Well, I bought chopsticks. Expensive chopsticks, but chopsticks are cool so hah.
When we walked out of the castle, the rain had stopped already and we walked around the park some more, there were still some parts we haven't seen. But it was also time to go to Osaka station so we could get onto a train to go to the airport. I was slowly becoming very sad. I really didn't want to leave that beautiful country.
I was also sad because I couldn't find a yukata or kimono (second hand) for a nice price and I really wanted one. But then.. at the airport, we still had some time to spare at Terminal 1 before going to Terminal 2 with the shuttle bus, we walked around some shops and I actually found a yukata! I did pay around €40 for it, but I am still pleased! When I would wear it? Animecon 2013 maybe? It doesn't matter, I got it, I'm happy and I will surely wear it someday. I can also use it as a very fancy bathrobe, haha!
We went to Terminal 2 and we checked in, spending some last money at the 7/11 (I bought a big box of Strawberry KitKat! And also some delicious strawberry milk) and said goodbye to Martin as he would leave to Hong Kong a little while after us. Martin, if you're reading this, I will probably tag along when you're visiting Seoul! It was really nice meeting you. :)
Our flight was a bit delayed, but eventually we got onto the plane to go back to Korea again. I still felt sad and I was (am!) absolutely determined to come back to Japan. And this time, it will not take me seven years!
Japan pt. 1 - Map the Kyoto & Tokyo
Hi everyone!Sorry took me a while to write again, but I think my anemia is acting up again. I look more pale than usual and feel tired even easier than before so I mainly rested. Luckily I didn't have a lot of classes after coming back from Japan. But yes, Japan! I've been to Japan after dreaming about it for at least 7 years. Can you believe it? One of my greatest dreams came true (I've wanted to go to Japan even more than going to Korea to be honest..) and I only knew about it around 2 weeks beforehand! That's no time to get mentally prepared, especially when you've been busy with one midterm (yes, only one, lucky me~) and a presentation and some papers. Uwaaaah. But let me tell you about my trip to Japan for real now! It started on Friday, November 2nd. I went to Incheon Airport with Sophia, Linda and Marion where we catch a plane of Peach Aviations (or Airlines, whatever) and then fly to Kansai International Airport. At this airport, Martin, a friend of Marion who is studying abroad in Hong Kong, waited for us and joined us for the trip. At first, we decided to get something from the 7/11 but we needed money for that. It was such a hassle to get money but fortunately, we could get money from the 7/11 ATM which would only give bills of Y10.000 but alright.. (Y10.000 is around €100) I got some onigiri, tuna sandwich and water. It was pretty good. Afterwards, we had to take a shuttle bus to get to the train station where we bought a ticket to go to Kansai. Now this is were my Japanese skills had to come in already, seeing as a lot of Japanese people actually don't know how to speak English. But they really do want to help you, so with efforts from both side we really ended up in Kansai. It took us hours though and the other four wanted to drop off their luggage at their hostel first. Finding this hostel was also a drag, haha. But luckily, we could ask directions from some people at a gas station. That is... after I asked them in Japanese. Aha, so proud of myself. :') It was already quite late (maybe 5 or 6pm?) and we decided to find some food. We found a small but nice little restaurant which served really nice udon! The owners were very nice to us and even a customer wanted to get up so we could use the table. And the best thing was; it wasn't expensive at all! Ah, it was a nice first dinner in Japan.
Sophia wanted to get some dessert and since I really had to stay close to Kyoto Station as I would have to catch my bus to Tokyo, we decided to stroll around that area. We ended up buying some donuts and coffee or what not. I just had a donut, the others had some other cookies but Martin bought latte. Green Latte. It was actually green. His face, it was very funny.
After looking around in a big mall (I found some games, but meh so expensive..), we decided to split up at Kyoto Station. The four of them would go back to their hostel and I would wait for my bus so I could go to Tokyo.
The bus ride was.. okay. I booked a Beaute4 Ladies seat, which is a seat especially for ladies. Heck, it even had a mirror attached to it. There were curtains on both my left and right side, making me only see the back of the seat in front of me. So yeah, there was a lot of privacy. I had a fancy leg rest and a comfortable neck pillow and all. So the bus ride was pretty okay. I woke up a couple of times, panicking I would miss my stop. But around 7am, I was in Tokyo. Finally.
Instead of going to look for food, I decided to directly go to my hostel. The owner told me to come after 8am, but I thought I could probably get some food in the area of the hostel. I had to transfer once and I actually went the wrong way first. But around 10 past 8 I was finally at the area of my hostel. It would only be a three minute walk, but I am so bad at directions I thought I walked the wrong way first, but it was actually really easy to find.
I waited for Maria and Yvi (Yvonne? I am so sorry but I didn't dare to ask your name again and I could swear it was Yvonne but you wrote Yvi once) to pick me up around 10 but they took forever. So I tried to contact them, but my phone was absolutely dead (NO SERVICE WTF?!?!) so I tried several ways. Trying a payphone, asking help from hostel owner, he said I should try payphone, went to a 'familymart' (something like a 7/11) and there I bought a telephone card with which I could call international numbers with... not. But just after I bought the card.. the two girls were standing in front of the hostel. Buh. They couldn't find it. I don't blame them, I just gave them the address and not the directions. Hm. Oh well, at least we got to meet and introduce each other and we went for lunch at first.
After lunch, we went to Nakamise Dori, which is a famous shopping street for souvenirs! Of course, I got some lovely souvenirs for some friends but unfortunately, I had difficulties looking for things for my family. Now that I look back on it, I think a mask for on the wall would be good for my brother but well.. hindsight. Ah, too bad. I'm sorry brother.
After going through Nakamise Dori again, we went to the bridge as the boat would leave there. But we stumbled upon a problem; Maria and Yvi didn't want to go on the boat as it would cost them a lot of money (they were in Japan for studies or internships, I forgot so they had to save on some costs) and they didn't know where the boat would stop in the garden we wanted to go to. So it would be quite difficult to meet up again. After some hard thinking (I am really bad at making decisions), I decided to just leave the boat trip and go with them to the garden with the subway. But while we were walking to the garden, they asked if I liked Pokémon. Liked? I LOVE POKÉMON. They mentioned that the Pokémon Center wasn't that far away and we could go there if I wanted to. Of course, of course I want to go there, why wouldn't I?! When we found it, a lot of people were sitting outside of the building with their Nintendo DS. Curious as to why, I asked Yvi about it. She said a lot of people sat here, just to be able to download some rare Pokémon. Hm, sounds reasonable. Everything in and around the Pokémon Center.. I just found it very relaxing to see. It was one of those few moments, I could just really be myself and act like the little kid I actually still am (mentally?). There were so many people with such an interest in a Japanese cartoon I, myself, grew up with and never could take a distance from. It made me really happy. I am already quite difficult with making choices, but I would've loved to buy everything. In the end, I just bought a little Mew toy, a folder (which I actually needed for my papers for counseling class) and a Squirtle plush! Don't tell my mom I bought another plush, please. I can already see her shaking her head.. After finally leaving the Pokémon Center (didn't want to), we walked to the garden I wanted to go to: Hama Rikyu Garden. I can't really say a lot about this, because well... it's a garden. It's what you expect it to be. But it was a beautiful sight nevertheless. When you think of Tokyo, you might think of a very crowded, loud and busy city, but at that time, at that garden, it was very peaceful. Seeing the beautiful scenery, even with the high buildings behind it, was very relaxing. There were some ponds and a few bridges. Even some tea houses. It was nice just to walk around it. Unfortunately, when we found the pier for the boat, the last boat already left. So I couldn't take the boat back. :( We went to the subway again and decided to part, seeing as it was quite a tiring day (and I found out the next day, Maria was a bit sick). I went back to the area of my hostel and decided to get some dinner. I thought I had found something great, but something was definitely wrong with my dish. Everything was too salty. From the noodles, to the chicken to even the bit of rice. I was all alone and I found it incredibly rude to not eat it all, so I really tried to eat most of it, but I just couldn't even with drinking water in between almost every bite. So, when the owner didn't really watch, I left my plate on the counter, said thank you and left. (I paid in the beginning.) I'm so sorry, owner, but I just didn't dare to say anything. :( To get rid of the salty taste, I bought donuts and went to Nakamise Dori again to look for some more souvenirs. I actually found a gem for Caroline and I really hope she likes it. (Caro, if you're reading this, just a little bit more and you will have it! Just be patient, haha :'D) Unfortunately, still nothing for family. :( I went back to my hostel, met one of my roommates, a nice French girl and just repacked my stuff and looked at the things I bought. Later, a Japanese business man joined us in our room (it was a room for four people) with whom I was talking to for a while until he stopped out of nowhere and just practically passed out on his futon. I blame the alcohol. He snored quite loudly, too. Everything I experienced those two days, I just knew it made me love Japan even more. I will write about day 3 and 4 in another post, when I have time again. I hope it is soon. :) I AM SO SORRY - Update from September 29 till .. now.
SO SO SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING AND ALL. I'd love to give you guys a detailed update about everything - my memory is not failing me now - but it will take me days to write that. I'm really sorry. :( I always get distracted whenever I want to write. So.... So I will just tell you what I did then in short? :D Some of them will be facebook updates. I'm telling you, just add me on facebook (if I know you irl or from twitter, I'm happy to add you ^^) because I update their pretty much daily.Chuseok weekend (Korean thanksgiving - 29/30 September) - I posted something on facebook that pretty much sums up the entire day: Just came back from a wonderful day at Lotte World with Qing Xia, Zou Yun, Ami Fujiya and Alinne Téllez. Atlantis is definitely my favourite, such a bad ass rollercoaster. I would go back, only for that ride. Never going to do free fall one anymore, though. Never. Again. Also, we saw a little boy who lost his parents so we tried to help him. Turned out he was Chinese and we could actually really help him! It was so emotional when he and his mother got reunited. The poor kid cried so hard. ;~~~; (Pretty much brought us to tears too.) And of course, I won a frickin Luffy plushy after so many tries. Also, the neighbourhood here is pretty much deserted because of Chuseok. Happy Chuseok everyone! Days after Lotte World I was pretty sick. Cold + flu and ugh. When my psychology professor even offered me to go home, I stayed in class. As soon as I got back, I passed out on my bed. Yeah, that was not fun. I missed my mom and her chicken soup terribly at that time. Being sick in a foreign country is seriously not a lot of fun. T^T OCTOBER 4 - 7 October 4th (facebook update): "RANT RANT RANT: When I woke up, I thought I was better. I wasn't. Voice cracked multiple times during the day. Presentation got postponed because we didn't have time for it anymore. Happy and sad at the same time. (Yay, more time to prepare! Boo, now I need to mentally prepare myself to give a presentation again.) Couldn't participate in the lottery for the TVXQ fansign event because apparently that closed at 5pm. No one told me this T~~~~~T. BUT. Ended my night with the free PSY concert where I got crushed and stomped on by Koreans. At one point, I got fed up and pushed back. Do not underestimate my power. >:( But it was fun seeing PSY in the size of a giant ant? :D Meh. I should update my blog." Oh the irony of the last sentence. Woops. Excuse me! But yes, I've seen PSY! WOOP WOOP! From far, but hey, I saw his outline? :'D October 5th: SKKU Festival (yep, festival at my university). Best thing was the concert. Lots of cheerleading squads - from SKKU and even other universities! Got some singers, even a PSY look-a-like haha. But the best thing were of course, Dynamic Duo and Miss A! FOR FREE! HAH! I got trampled and was surrounded by tall people, but I could still see them from pretty up close, so I'm pleased. :D October 6th: Islamic Cultural Festival and Fireworks Festival. I obviously went to the former for the Indonesian food. God, I miss that food. I even want to the stand three times and the second time, they understood I was Indonesian. Yup yup. And the fireworks at night were really nice too! ^___^ October 7th: ... another concert. Here comes the facebook update! "I will get killed for what I'm about to say, but.. I've seen DBSK, Super Junior and SNSD perform for FREE at the Gangnam Festival just a few hours ago. We were standing right next to the catwalk, so if they decided to go to the front.. they would pass us. And SJ did that.. a lot. Eunhyuk looked at me, Siwon was waving at us, Donghae was dancing in front of us. Kangin was jumping around like crazy. Seohyun was making hearts to everyone. Sunny ran all over the stage. HoMin didn't go to the front a lot unfortunately.. But.. Guys. My life. It has been made. Best concert ever. (Especially because it was for free!) BUT I THOUGHT OF ALL OF YOU OKAY? DONT HATE ME. T_T" Another concert. For free. I am totally blessed to experience all of this. T^T Best night in Seoul until now, my goodness. I could die happily. So yeah, those were 4 days full of concerts and festivals. Exhausting, but so worth it! October 12 - 14: I went to Jinju and Busan with Nora and Evée! There was a Lantern Festival in Jinju and in Busan there's.. well.. a lot of fish. The lanterns were really nice and we saw some traditional performances, even a small part of a musical! We ended up at some kind of motel, though we specifically asked the driver to go to a jjimjilbang, but this was fine too. It was awkward in the beginning though. When we turned on the tv, Korean porn was on. Immediately, we turned the tv off, thinking we were in a love motel. We only had one bed for two people (three people could fit in it though), but I decided to sleep on the ground on a futon. ^^ But then I said: try to change the channel. And we actually could! So no love motel! .... Hopefully. In Busan, we went to Haeundae beach and walked around one of the fish markets. I barely ate any fish the entire stay because the living fish in the tanks totally creeped me out! T^T Around lunch time, I split from Nora and Evée to meet up with Natasja (friend from the Netherlands!!) seeing as it was her final day in Busan. I got a little emotional when I saw her. You can guess why. But we got some nice food (she said it was spicy what I got, but it wasn't spicy at all. Pfft.) and went to a lovely teahouse and just hung around until I had to go back to Haeundae because the other two wanted to go to a jjimjilbang there to stay the night. I, on the other hand, started to feel kinda sick and I'd rather wanted some privacy because of that so I went to a motel by myself. It was nice to have a room for myself after 1,5 months of sharing it with someone else. The second day in Busan, and also the last one, I went to this temple in the mountains: Beomeosa Temple. I didn't walk up the mountain, I actually got a taxi with an English speaking driver all the way up, but the way down.. My god, it took me 40 minutes. But the temple was really nice though! Even though I haven't seen everything (at least, I think I didn't see everything). The contrast of the buildings against nature is such a refreshing sight. It was also really nice to just walk around and enjoy the scenery. If you ever go to Busan, try to go to that temple. Afterwards, I just killed some time near the centrail train station until I could get onto a bus (which was 40 minutes from the train station -____- .. it was only 5 minutes from Beomeosa Temple omg) to go back to Seoul. I got approached by some girls. I didn't know why, but after a while they started talking about God and Mother of Heaven or something like that. It was actually quite interesting, hearing her (only one girl her English was good enough) talk so passionately about it. She couldn't really finish her talk though, seeing as I had to go on the subway to catch my bus. We exchanged numbers, but I didn't really contact her yet and she didn't either. Not that I mind that much. I barely catched my bus, but I made it. I switched seats with this older man so he could sit next to his wife. Sure, why not. I actually did the same when I went TO Busan. A guy wanted to sit next to his girlfriend and asked if he could change his seat with me. (Well, he asked in Korean first and then he realized I was not Korean. But I understood him anyway.) I ended up next to a sleeping guy. Meh, I slept too so that was fine. Another exhausting but fun weekend!! October 20th: Meeting up with Natasja to go to COEX Aquarium and afterwards show her around in my district: Hyehwa. COEX Aquarium has monkeys. And squirrels. And prairie dogs. And of course, fishes!! But the other animals.. hm, wouldn't think they would be at an aquarium. But it is a lovely aquarium and I like watching colorful ones. I even held a starfish for a couple of seconds and let some small fishes nibble on my fingers. (I am very ticklish and couldn't handle it after 2 seconds.) There was also a small show by two divers with.. I think anchovies. I even got a picture with one of the divers! :D Afterwards we went a bit insane in the Evan Records store. We bought pictures. ... PICTURES. I am very happy with my Donghae pictures, though. And Eunhyuk. And I bought a Kangin one for Pauliene. ^^ In Hyehwa, I showed Natasja the flat I'm living in and our main street. We took some pictures in the awesome photobooths, acting all silly and we also got some pizza. Afterwards, we split up again. She went back to her hotel and I went back to my flat. And the days after that I just studied my ass off for this one exam I had (yes, only one) and it turned out to be quite easy. We had 51 focus points (questions) to learn. Meaning, we had to look up or try to come up with answers as our study material. The exam though only had 8 questions of which we had to answer only 4 (you could even choose them) plus one essay question you couldn't really study for. So I actually think I failed, because I overdid the studying part and just got so confused during the exam. Hm hm hm. Tomorrow, probably shopping and afterwards I have to work hard again. I have a presentation coming up this Thursday and on Friday I will go to Japan for four days, so I also have to work on my homework for the week after. Meh. But yeah, here's an update. I'm sorry for the lack of pictures, but I was trying to finish this post as soon as I could. I feel it's completely rushed and disorganized, but hey, at least I finally updated. Someone should push me to update more frequently. Yup. Korean Folk Village, Creators Project & Korean Boyfriend!
Hey everyone! Seeing as I am probably going away this weekend, I'll try to update on what has happened the last few weeks. I'll try to keep it really short and simple. ^__^ I hope I can start trying to update regularly, but everytime I want to write, something comes up and I forget. T___TKorean Folk Village On September 22nd, the Hi-Club organized a Hi-Club day where international students and their buddies go to the Korean Folk Village and look around there and even carve some precious memories in pottery during a workshop. I wish we had some more time in this village, but it was fun nonetheless. We saw a horse riding show and when they wanted to stand with five people on two horses (look at the pictures), the top one fell at the first try! But he was a boss, stood up and just tried again. Round of applause for this guy! They probably fall all the time, but it was still really impressive. The pottery workshop.. Everyone thought we would be making our own pots, but none of that was true. The pots were already made, but we were allowed to carve our own art in it. Most people just wrote something along the lines of "Sungkyunkwan University 2012!!" and asked their friends to write something. But yeah, Korean Folk Village was really nice and I would like to go back and look at some places I missed. It really shows how they lived years back and some old traditions. Really nice to see if you're interested in the culture. :) Creators Project One the same day, but in the evening, we went to Creators Project. This is a concert but also kind of an art festival. It's for free and when we heard 2NE1 and Drunken Tiger would perform.. of course, we would go. We were afraid they were performing as one of the first, but they were actually one of the last. Of course, why would they be first. At first, we were just sitting on the grass, listening to the several DJs, but I got the opportunity to sit against the fence so I would have a spot on the first row. Damn right, I had one. I saw 2NE1 and Drunken Tiger very close. 2NE1 was really nice and Drunken Tiger said 'fuck' at least 30 times in maybe 3 minutes? He also said something along the lines of 'fuck white people' because he was talking about PSY's success and how it got on CNN and Ellen and what not. And idk, Drunken Tiger is an angry man haha. Or he just doesn't give a damn. After Drunken Tiger, we wanted to go home, but we heard Idiotape playing (we didn't know who they were at first) but damn! They have some nice electronic music! Not bad, not bad at all! My friends went totally insane with the dancing, while I just stood there, moving along to the beat a bit and just enjoying the music. I came home around 1.30am. Holy crap. That's so not me. But it was worth it. Korean Boyfriend Okay, this is just going to be really short but it was so funny, I had to share it. I think it was on the 26th or something like that, when Nora, Sam and I went to Dongdaemun to do some shopping. We all got some nice things, I even bought a cute little outfit for my cute little niece back home. But! That wasn't the best thing that night. When we arrived at the boys' department, this guy with a little shop beckoned us to come closer so we did. We looked around at the clothes (my god, I love boys' clothes, not gonna lie ... hence why I wear my brother's clothes and actually am considered a tomboy) and talked a little bit about where we're from and such. While I was still looking at some jackets and sweaters, Sam and Nora were talking next to the shop, leaving me with the random Korean shop keeper. All of a sudden, he showed me a sweater going "Maybe this is something for your boyfriend?"Uhm. Okay? He threw his arm around me too, saying he was my boyfriend from then on. He also turned to Nora and Sam, asking if they had boyfriends. "No?" "Oh, then I'll be your boyfriend too!" We laughed so much and after a while left to look at other clothes. When we were near the subway station, Nora and I decided we had to go back to take a picture with him. I can't believe we did this. "Hey.. Can we.. take a picture with you?" |
